Company history
In 25 years, a small team in Darmstadt has grown into a group of companies that today develops software for regulated industries, medical products with international approval and IT security for critical infrastructures.
What has united us since 2001 is a shared vision, courageous decisions and the ambition to create solutions that really make a difference. Here you will find the most important milestones in our history.
Foundation of BAYOONET AG
BAYOONET AG is founded in Darmstadt on March 1, 2001. The founders and board members are Stefan Becher and Frank Manger. A broad product portfolio has been part of the range right from the start:
- Qware Risk Manager: Software for risk management of medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14971, predecessor of the later BAYOOSOFT Risk Manager.
- MEDiLEX: Interactive loose-leaf collection on European legislation for medical devices and IVDs.
- AssetMobile: Modular extension of Microsoft SMS and Tivoli TAM for professional asset management, with Pocket PC and barcode scanner.
- PortaMaXX: Intranet and knowledge management platform, especially for SMEs without a large IT department.
- StoreMaXX: Scalable online store system based on ASP.NET, modularly expandable.
- USBshield: First German product for freely configurable protection against data theft via USB and Firewire interfaces.
Did you know? The origin of our name
Even though a lot has changed over the years, our name has remained the same.
The name BAYOONET is derived from the bayonet catch used in photography, which allows lenses to be changed quickly and flexibly. This principle characterizes our development model: modular architectures, flexible interfaces, clear separation of data access, business logic and presentation as well as interchangeable language libraries. This means that core systems can later be expanded with new web or desktop interfaces as easily as a lens can be changed on a camera.

With the Fileserver Management Suite (FMS), BAYOONET develops its own solution for authorization management on file servers for the first time. The FMS automates the assignment, maintenance and documentation of NTFS permissions in Active Directory environments and thus lays the foundation for today’s BAYOOSOFT Access Manager.
A short journey back in time to the web development of days gone by
Today, a look at the BAYOONET website from 2013 brings a smile and a lot of appreciation. It is a reminder of how far we have come since the beginning and how many co-thinkers have helped shape it from the start.
These years were characterized by continuous growth. The service portfolio grew steadily, from individual software development, web platforms and mobile applications to specialized solutions for medical technology and IT security. Step by step, a small team in Darmstadt became the foundation for today’s BAYOONET Group, supported by colleagues who have helped shape the company over the years and continue to do so to this day.
15 years of BAYOONET and expansion of the medical sector
In 2016, the Medical Software division gains a much higher profile. The future BAYOOMED business unit provides specialized services for the design and development of medical apps for iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows Mobile, in accordance with the applicable regulatory standards IEC 62304, ISO 14971 and IEC 60601-1-6 / EN 62366.
Qware Riskmanager is being continuously developed in parallel and is consolidating its position as the world’s leading software product for creating risk management files and usability engineering files for medical devices and IVDs. The focus is on accelerating the approval process, a self-learning knowledge database, integrated version and action management and the reduction of liability risks through seamless documentation.
For our 15th anniversary, we are rolling out the orange carpet: With a party for all fellow thinkers, we are celebrating together what has been created in a decade and a half.
Our BAYOONET logo is also getting a fresh update this year.
Introduction of the BAYOOSOFT, BAYOOMED and BAYOOTEC business units
The service portfolio has steadily expanded over the years and is now officially bundled under three specialized business units, which significantly sharpen BAYOONET’s profile.
Management software with a focus on highly regulated industries and critical infrastructures. The in-house software products are renamed accordingly: Qware Riskmanager becomes BAYOOSOFT Risk Manager, the Fileserver Management Suite (FMS) becomes BAYOOSOFT Access Manager.
Medical Software for Pharma, MedTech and Life Science, specialized in medical software and medical apps according to IEC 62304, ISO 14971 and IEC 62366.
Focuses on mobile medical apps, digital health applications (DiGA) and cloud solutions.
Enterprise software for medium-sized companies and international corporations, specializing in CMS-supported digital platforms, marketplaces, e-commerce portals and complex business software solutions. The technologies used include Sitecore, Sitefinity, Drupal, Magento and .NET.
Foundation of BAYOOCARE GmbH, opening of the Berlin location and spin-off BAYOONET Service
Several important steps characterize the year 2020:
- Foundation of BAYOOCARE GmbH:
With BAYOOCARE GmbH, the BAYOONET Group opens up a new strategic business area in the medical technology sector with the business purpose of Regulatory Affairs. - Acquisition of TESIS SYSware GmbH: Expansion of the IT security portfolio to include the password reset solution AMPR Password Reset and takeover of Mainframe Consulting Services.
- Opening of the Berlin location: With the branch office in the listed Ullsteinhaus directly at Tempelhof harbor, the BAYOONET Group is growing in the capital and tapping into the local tech scene as well as customers from the energy, industry and public sectors.
- Spin-off of BAYOONET Service GmbH & Co. KG: The central service functions back office, IT and marketing are spun off into a separate company and support all BAYOONET Group companies with immediate effect.
2021 – Foundation of the limited liability companies BAYOOSOFT, BAYOOMED and BAYOOTEC
The focus in 2021 is on the establishment of the independent companies: On December 1, 2021, BAYOOTEC GmbH, BAYOOMED GmbH and BAYOOSOFT GmbH are founded by articles of association in preparation for the subsequent holding company restructuring. Ekaterina Ruzhekova (BAYOOTEC), Miriam Schulze (BAYOOMED) and Svenja Winkler (BAYOOSOFT) (from left to right), who have headed the business units to date, take over the management of their GmbHs as CEOs.
Transformation to a holding company, opening of the Munich site and takeover of Puls Produktdesign and foundation of BAYOOCARE Swiss
2022 is the year of the major strategic restructuring. After three years of preparation, BAYOONET AG becomes a pure holding company and no longer conducts any operational business itself. The company name also changes: “BAYOONET Aktiengesellschaft” becomes “BAYOONET AG”.
Munich is our southern German location for customer projects in technology, industry and medical technology. The roof terrace invites you to take a lunch break when the weather is nice, and the subway and parking spaces are right outside the door. Leading technology companies and research institutes are our immediate neighbors.
Puls Produktdesign GmbH from Darmstadt, founded in 1984, becomes part of the Group and adds industrial and product design, design consulting, UX design and design engineering to the portfolio, with a focus on medical, healthcare, tools and industry.
BAYOOCARE Swiss GmbH is founded in Basel to place medical devices on the Swiss market as a Swiss authorized representative (CH-Rep) after the MRA agreement expires with the entry into force of the MDR and IVDR.
Takeover of UID GmbH, Mechatronic GmbH, Cologne site and launch of BAYOOSOFT Themis and the YOOme brand
In 2023, the BAYOONET Group continues to grow and bundles its expertise in medical products under its own brand.
UID GmbH (founded in 1998, headquartered in Ludwigsburg) becomes part of the BAYOONET Group with around 60 co-thinkers. It adds UX, user research, UI development and usability studies as well as the Ludwigsburg site. The Group now covers the entire product development life cycle from a single source.
Mechatronic GmbH (now Mechatronic Medical Engineers GmbH) becomes part of the BAYOONET Group and expands its previously purely digital portfolio to include medical and diagnostic device development, IoT and the manufacture of medical devices.
BAYOOSOFT launches Themis, a validated solution for technical documentation in accordance with MDR and IVDR as well as for QMS and ISMS. Modular design with Documentation Guide, risk management according to ISO 14971, requirements engineering and management system modules for ISO 13485, ISO 9001 and ISO 27001.
Launch YOOme
YOOme is founded as a brand association for the development of medical devices and covers the entire medical device journey, from the idea to maintenance. YOOme bundles the services of five sister companies: BAYOOCARE, BAYOOMED, Mechatronic Medical Engineers, Puls Produktdesign and UID.
Launch of the BAYOOMED platform MedicalOne Connect
2025 is all about the platform business in medical technology: BAYOOMED is launching MedicalOne Connect, a regulatory-compliant end-to-end platform for manufacturers of digital healthcare applications. The healthcare platform connects medical technologies, healthcare professionals and patients in a GDPR-compliant, secure and cost-efficient manner. It is quickly establishing itself as an infrastructure for numerous DiGA manufacturers and as a basis for medtech and pharma solutions.
25 years of the BAYOONET Group
More than two decades of BAYOONET is a story of continuous growth, courageous decisions and an impressive development from a small software company in Darmstadt to one of the leading groups of companies for software, medical technology and product development in Europe.
We look back on everything we have achieved together with great gratitude and pride. Because every acquisition, every spin-off, every location, every product and every milestone stands for the people behind it. Our co-thinkers are the foundation on which the BAYOONET Group stands. With their knowledge, their passion and their thinking, they make our Group what it is today.
